December 27, 2024
Each year, I select a Word of the Year to guide my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at The Madison Senior Living in Kansas City, Missouri, the beginning of a new year offers an opportunity to reset, refocus, and prepare for what lies ahead. My chosen word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed by how much my Word of the Year influenced my journey.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was camaraderie. This word represented our commitment to building strong relationships while fostering unity, trust, and teamwork. During a year of transitions, camaraderie guided my decisions, strengthened relationships, and supported both personal and professional growth.
This focus created a culture of support, allowing our team to grow together and improve collaboration. Camaraderie inspired us to work as a unified team, building trust and ensuring that everyone felt valued and connected.
The lessons learned from camaraderie will guide our approach in 2025. By fostering teamwork and unity, we created a strong foundation for future growth.
For 2025, my Word of the Year is ownership. This word emphasizes accountability and encourages each team member to take pride and responsibility in their roles. Building on the teamwork and unity established in 2024, ownership will empower individuals to drive both personal and community growth.
By focusing on ownership, we aim to inspire team members to contribute their best while fostering a sense of pride in their work. This approach will strengthen our community and enhance the care and support we provide to residents and families.
As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and look forward to stepping into a new chapter guided by ownership. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
