The Madison: Senior Living Truths

Category: Senior Living

Author: Erin K. Winsted, Administrator

Arrow Senior Living is known for doing things a little differently and challenging the status quo within the industry. It’s just who we are! Even with all the technological conveniences of today such as social media and websites, it is still common to meet individuals with a skewed perception of what senior living looks like. In this blog, I want to share my senior living journey, why I remain committed to the industry, the biggest myth I believe exists, and how to help others overcome the myths surrounding our beautiful The Madison Senior Living community and services.

I transitioned from my role as Executive Director at a children’s hospital to join a senior community near my home in a sales capacity. After about a year in sales, the Executive Director position became available, and I applied. Despite not securing that position. I soon received an offer for a role at a competitor’s site about seven miles away, where I stayed for nine years.

The role of Executive Director comes with its share of challenges. However, what keeps me coming back each day is the profound impact we can make on the lives of our residents and their families. Recently, I encountered a new resident in the hallway and inquired about her experience. She responded, “They’re wonderful. This is the best thing my children have ever made me do!”

Few positions offer the opportunity to positively transform someone’s life and well-being to such an extent.

Beyond Misconceptions: Creating Vibrant and Engaging Communities

One of the prevailing myths surrounding senior living is the outdated notion it resembles a nursing home. Having visited many nursing homes myself, I can attest our communities are vastly different. Our neighborhoods warmly welcome and engage visitors, families, and residents alike. Our community doesn’t have individuals languishing in unattended hallways; instead, it’s characterized by cleanliness, brightness, and warmth. Residents exude happiness, friendliness, and pride in showcasing their home to others.

To dispel this myth, we actively involve individuals in our community. We invite them to join us for meals, tours, Happy Hour, Sunday Brunch, and special educational events. By facilitating these opportunities, we enable them to forge connections, make friends, and discover the myriad benefits our community offers.

I encourage you to share this helpful information with others because, here at Arrow, we are committed to reshaping the perception of senior living! Search #whatseniorlivinglookslike, and you will find so many great things that happen in our community every single day.
