National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year. The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.
Holly, our acting Director of Wellness, is open and completely honest about resident and family concerns. She looks at the full picture, both operationally and clinically, and makes every effort to find the best solutions for all. Families appreciate that she listens and takes time to understand their concerns. They appreciate her availability to them during emergencies, even after hours.
Families have repeatedly commented on the care and concern that is provided by our wellness team and want to make certain that we know how much they appreciate them daily. Multiple families have complimented many of the care and medication partners by name to the management team. I want to thank the wellness team for their patience, care, and concern for all the residents. Their efforts, follow through, and fortitude have paid off in improved customer service ratings and a better work environment for all.
The wellness team stepped up to support the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by continuing to be here and care for residents even though it meant being in PPE that was hot and uncomfortable.
I want to give an extra shoutout to Hilari, Sydni, Andrea, Marcus, and Tiffany. All of you have been mentioned multiple times by multiple families and residents for your exceptional care.
We are recognizing our nurses at The Madison Senior Living Kansas City, MO during National Nurses Week with a lunch away from the community, having residents’ families sign a big sign to post in the wellness office, and spirit week with a special type of dress each day.
